scrimmages
In my district, we have certain standards we are required to teach for a 3 week period. We then test the students over those standards. There are 2-3 questions per standard for a total of 6 questions per test. We have to then rank the students by percentages- either intervention, strategic, and passing. Then, for the next 3 weeks, we reteach to the intervention and strategic students the standards that they didn't get. We only have a 1/2 hour a day to reteach. 3 days a week are language arts and 2 days are math. I am really struggling with my kids in math. I wish my principal would let me do 3 days of math and 2 of language arts. Does anybody else do this kind of testing or reteaching? Any hints?

Crazy busy
Hi all, School is in full swing. We are 5 weeks in and I am still trying to get to know my kiddos. We have a ton of new students in our building this year. They are causing much strife as they learn to follow our rules and expectations. Out of my 28 students, 14 are new to our building. They love to talk and play. They are extremely low. On the SRI test, 1 student is benchmark, 3 are strategic, and the rest are intensive. I also have 10 special education kids out of the bunch. I am trying to get as many anchor charts, games, and fun activities for my kids. It makes for long lesson planning days on the weekend. It will get better as I get used to this grade level, these kids, and the standards. I hope you all have great days!

CRAZY BUSY
I am so sorry that I have not posted in awhile. I have been crazy busy between learning a new grade level, coaching soccer, and trying to keep care of me, my three boys, and my house. No rest for the weary at all. I will post again, soon.

Overwhelmed
I just have to say that I am tired and overwhelmed. I got to school at 8:00. Went to my new room and it had two other teachers' boxes in them. I had to move those, luckily the custodians helped a bit. Then, I had to go to my old room and move my stuff to my new room. Luckily, my husband helped for an hour. I also had 3 former students help to transport stuff from old to new. They also carried in my stuff from the van. We then started unpacking stuff. We then decided that we better go to the dungeon. This summer, our district came in and took out our lockers. During the school year, our students used them for their coats and backpacks. During the summer, we used them for storage. Thus, all of my stuff, along with others, was packed into boxes not very nicely, and thrown in the dungeon. I had to search for the locker numbers, luckily I knew them, that were written on the boxes so that I could get my stuff. Then, when we tried to lift the boxes, the bottoms fell out. Thus, what should have been a 15 minute job took almost an hour. Those 3 girls earned their lunch and dessert today. I was so thankful for them. I am also glad that they wanted to come help. I guess I do make a difference in some students' lives. Tomorrow, I am going in by myself to continue sorting and unpacking. Thursday is meetings and then I have Friday to finish. The kiddos come on Monday. Please pray for me as I am majorly stressing out. Have a great evening.

Moving to 3rd Grade
I just found out that I will be leaving my beloved 2nd grade and moving to 3rd grade. 3rd grade is the first grade to be tested on our statewide test. My principal wants me in 3rd grade as I am a strong leader and know what is right for the students. Please wish me luck in my new endeavour. Now to move classrooms. My room will be smaller and even less storage. I have no idea what I am going to do!

mimio pad
I was fortunate enough to have someone give me a new mimio pad. But I don't have the thing I put on the whiteboard so that we can work interactively. I am so upset. They cost too much to buy!

Math workshop
I had so much fun yesterday at my district math training. I am one of the trainers. We are discussing how to implement/combine Everyday Counts Calendar Math and the daily routine from our math series, Math Expressions. It has been so cool to see teachers' lightbulbs come on when we show them how to use our required curriculum. I am working with 3 other district teachers who have such wonderful ideas. I had not met any of them before we met at the beginning of June. We have worked great together and I feel that I have met 3 new friends. We also have had make and takes in the afternoon. I will share pictures of our make and takes later. I keep forgetting my camera. I will also let you know that I have shared Teachers Pay Teachers and the blogger site. I want other teachers in my district to see what awesome ideas there are in the educational world. Thanks again for all you do. Have a great day!!!!!

First Blog
Hi, everyone! This is my first blog! I teach 2nd grade and I am also a mom to 3 wonderful boys. I am always looking for new and creative ideas. If I come up with my own, I will share them on here as well. One of my students told me I was a Diva because of the Beyonce song. That is why I called this blog, "Divalicious Teacher." Have a great night!
